Kid Ad Law

The Federal Trade Commission has announced that it will hold a workshop in May on mobile commerce. Among the topics on the agenda are "M-commerce practices targeting children and teens," the agency stated.
The meeting, titled "Beyond Voice: Mapping the Mobile Marketplace," is scheduled to be held May 6-7 in Washington. Topics the FTC plans to discuss include:
- Consumers' ability to control mobile applications
- Industry best practices used to prevent fraud, disclose costs and resolve billing disputes
- Security threats and solutions
The agency also will examine the adaptation of advertising to mobile devices, and "next-generation" products and services.
"Wireless devices, once associated only with voice telephone services, have become the launching pads for new technologies and services," the FTC said. Now, people use mobile devices to chat through text messaging, take pictures, browse the Web, listen to music, view entertainment, play online games, and keep track of friends and relatives, the agency noted.
Members of the public are invited to attend the workshop, and submit comment by March 17.
