Our position: McDonald's was right to pull plug on Happy Meals promotion in Seminole schools

It's good to see that once a concerned parent exposed
the skinny on the cozy relationship between Seminole
County elementary schools and McDonald's, the corporate
giant dumped its promotion of a Happy Meals rewards
program on report cards.
Schools should not be promoting any business,
particularly one that has built its empire on this
country's appetite for fast food.
Ultimately, parents should make the call on what their
kids eat. But schools have no business wrapping report
cards and advertising into a tidy marketing plan.
What's more, given the worsening childhood obesity
problem, it sends the wrong message for schools to
reward good grades with something parents themselves
might be trying hard to discourage.
